But we love screens and cameras, so it's worth noting Kia's innovation. We found it a bit distracting and other than possibly a motorcyclist or bicyclist who was buzzing past very close to the vehicle, a bit unnecessary. Once you put your turn signal on for either a left or right turn the corresponding side of the dash displays a live-view of your blind spot. Speaking of tech, there is a 12.3" digital dash with blind-spot monitors. You know, on the off-chance that you had six people who had forgotten to charge their various devices. The panoramic roof helped the cabin feel airy, and the second row captain's chairs could slide forward and back. We really enjoyed our time behind the wheel. Granted, it's not some land yacht like a bullet-proof Cadillac Escalade, but the overall footprint had us thinking it would drive bigger. We loved that despite having three rows of seats, the 2022 Kia Sorento drove much smaller than we expected.

Kia's included Drive Wise Advnaced Driver Assistance Settings (ADAS) add safety and convenience to the Sorento. It performed well around small back roads in Georgia ( Kia has built more than 1 million Sorentos in Georgia) and on long stretches of freeway.

Despite it being an extra inch higher, we didn't find any issues in terms of feeling too loose or floaty. The X-Line package came with off-road performance upgrades like the raised suspension but also some underpinnings like a locking rear diff and additional Snow drive mode. Admittedly, we found this a little overkill for a family-focused three-row SUV. The naturally-aspirated four-cylinder has an eight-speed automatic but the upgraded 2.5-liter turbo engine gets a dual-clutch transmission. It wasn't overpowering and fake but gave enough umph that any dad driving his family around would still be proud.

The three-row Sorento impressed us with how quick it scooted off the line and in freeway passing. The 2022 Kia Sorento X-Line we drove had AWD and the 2.5-liter turbo. That aims to keep things slim helps with aero and gives the Sorento a narrow appearance while still being spacious on the inside. The hatch's arched design is more reminiscent of the back of a sedan than a traditional SUV. As other automakers are doing, Kia has stretched the "Sorento" name across the back. The angular design culminates at the rear with vertical taillights. The profile of the 2022 Kia Sorento reveals a longer wheel-base which creates more interior and storage space for this three-row family hauler. Kia tasked their designers to carry the "refined boldness" theme throughout, and in doing so, they aim to elevate the Sorento above mid-size SUV competition like the Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot. From the recessed "tiger-nose" grille in gloss black, to the sculpted hood, to the sharp belt line that runs from the headlights back to the tail, this fourth-generation design is another big step forward for Kia. It's like your friend whose failed dating relationship with a bookish pre-school teacher led them to date a tatted-up rocker chick. This fourth generation, however, is the total opposite. Kia's previous generations featured a rounded and soft design. One of the first design elements we noticed when our Wolf Grey 2022 Kia Sorento X-Line SX-Prestige AWD ($45,120) arrived was how angular it was.
